8/28/2023 0 Comments Canton tot lot![]() It was hard to book it over to shows we wanted to see, too. I did see turkey legs and a sign for mead, but I think the mead was just beer. I thought it was weird that you could buy pizza and Whiteclaw at a Renaissance festival this was my first time going and I expected it to be more period-accurate. The food and drinks are over-priced but that’s to be expected at such an event. But kids wouldn’t notice the poor performances as well. The energy from some was still good and helped make the shows, but I’d say it’s probably more kid-level than an adult would enjoy, yet some of the jokes made aren’t great for kids so there’s an imbalance there. ![]() One woman used a terrible British accent as entertainment. Songs were present-day and sung badly over and over. Shows talked big but did little-passionate people without the talent to back it up. For one, there were loud speakers and microphones used, which I was disappointed by. There was a lot less period-accurate things happening than I expected. Shouldn’t it be packed dirt? There wasn’t gravel back then. ![]() The benches are warped and have green things growing on them. Colors are faded on flags and tapestries. It’s marketed as a permanent village, which to me made it seem like there would be good, well-made structures there when in reality, much of it looks like thin pieces of old wood nailed together to make ramshackle buildings. Thinking objectively about the festival itself, though, I don’t think it was worth the ticket price. I went with friends and being there with them made it awesome. One piece of history I liked was this property has the very view which served as the inspiration for the design of the Great Seal of Ohio. I'd recommend late July thru the Fall, or the Spring time. It's too late to see the perineals as they've finished blooming and it's too early to see the annuals.so it's an in between time. If you like flowers, remember that mid to late June is not a great time to see the gardens. Afterwards you can explore the grounds on your own. Very much information to absorb on the tour. The mansion probably took an hour to go thru with a tour guide. They've done a great job of trying to restore things back to how they would have been during the era. You can learn a lot about the history of how Ohio became a state by perusing the welcome center and taking the tour of the mansion. even more if you like to take your time and explore things. You should allow yourself at least two hours. Would suggest trying it! We will be back! The water was very clear in some places and there was little trash along the river. There were a few limbs in the water which made it fun to navigate around them. Due to the higher water, our trip was about 1.5 hours It was very peaceful. There had been quite a bit of rain before our canoe trip so the water was higher than normal, but made it so we didn't have to get out of the canoe to move it when it bottomed out (which happens a lot in the summer) There were some little rapids which made it fun. They helped us get into the canoe safely and sent us on our way. They had restrooms on site, fitted us for life vests and paddles and took us to the drop off site. You take a small foot bridge over to the waiting area. The parking is in a field on the land next to the the main building. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
